Dominica

January 18 to 23, 2005

On the way to Dominica, we were unable to stop at Montserrat but we certainly were able to take a good look at the damage and have a good sniff of sulfur on this still active volcano.

Two thirds of the island looked like any other Caribbean Island, however the southern third had been devastated since the 1995 eruption.

We were visited by a pod of dolphins off Guadeloupe just before dusk.

They danced and splashed all around our bows.

Wrecks from past hurricanes were everywhere in beautiful Portsmouth Harbour, Dominica.

Although Portsmouth was Dominica's only substantial beautiful beach, this is the typical scene (between the wrecked freighters); with small shanties and fishing shacks all along it.

This is Bounty, our boat boy.  He took us on a river cruise, a tour of the bay and a trip to the customs office...all for a fee!

Bounty's house.  We tipped him well!

Our trip up Indian River in Dominica.  They claim they have a river for every day of the year!

These children were late for school.  This is their dad delivering them, sometime mid morning!

This is one of my favourite pictures.  The intricately buttressed Mang tree is a favourite of the Indian River tour.

Lunch anyone?

How about a nice cool drink on your way home from work?
